We are in a craft crisis, every year more crafts are added to the Red List, mening they are at risk of dying out as no one practices them anymore. 11% of these in the UK originate from Sheffield and its metal working legacy. Here at The Modern Mesters' Guild these will be revived to provide new skills and opportun ites to local people.
Taking on a no demoliton approach the site occupys three exisitng builfing, a workshop, warehouse and 1960s pub. These varying typologies were suited to different funcitons and retrofit approaches. The warehouse left as a rian coat ove r the individual workshops, the worksjops being veritslcly extended and internally isualted and the pub ecternally insualted and re configured to be astreet face to the projcet.
