Abbeyfield House Live Project
Abbeyfield house is a neglected grade II listed house in Pitsmoor Sheffield. Used by multiple community groups the building is well loved and used however it is in desperate need of intervention. Ad hoc extensions and alterations have led to an unhealthy damp house, with lack of accessibility, openable windows, heating and functional usable space the house is in need of an overhaul. This Live Project collaborated with the friends of Abbeyfield House to formulate a brief and complete a speculative project over the course of six weeks. The retrofit was a key aspect of the design with cement render causing a multitude of problems internally and externally, therefore a guide explaining how biobased retrofit could be utilised was created. The design of the plan was rationalised and simplified creating new view lines and warm space. A small extension provided surveillance to the back of the house and created a dialogue with the future stable project to the rear.
